Two boys are in the mud kitchen mixing and stirring water, stones, mud and grass into metal bucket.

Me: “ooh what are you making boys it looks very interesting?”

Boy A: “Stone soup”

Me: “that sounds nice do you like stone soup?”

They both pull of a face and laugh shaking their heads.

Me: “who is it for”

Boy B: “monsters”

Me: “do monsters eat stone soup? I didn’t know that’s what they ate”

Boy B “they do they like mud and grass and water like this that” (he lifts a spoon up to show me the soup)

The boys continue to mix and stir their ingredients laughing and smiling the whole time; working together sharing their ideas and helping each other to find the tools they need to mix and scoop the stones, grass and water.

Lots of the children have been talking about their Christmas trees at home and how excited they were to decorate them, with lots of them talking about the colours of their decorations and how many trees they have.

So we decided it would be a lovely activity for the children to decorate our trees outside.

We gave the children bright red baubles and coloured star stickers. They loved peeling the star stickers from the paper and placing them onto the baubles counting how many they used and what colours were their favourites.

It was even more fun putting the baubles onto the trees. The children placed them carefully where they thought they would look best then stood back and admired their work 🙂

The trees look beautiful!

I think we will revisit this activity but next time we could decorate cds with colourful stickers and the children can write their names onto them too.

One little girl mentioned tinsel so we may need to get this too!

We introduced some natural materials to the sand pit area today to see how the children would use these during their play.

We gave them:

*sticks

*stones

*fur cones

and so the fun began they started  creating!

Look at these amazing patterns that have been created today what awesome vision and creativity.

I wonder what else we could create with these materials, watch this space for lots more creative play using natural resources.
